Born into a farming family in Nghe An and raised in Đak Lak, Prof. Toán faced numerous challenges from a young age. Despite witnessing many of his peers abandon their studies to pursue coffee cultivation in the 1990s, he remained resolute in his pursuit of higher education, thanks to the immense support from his family.

In 1998, he gained admission to the inaugural cohort of the Talented Bachelor’s Programme in the at VNUHCM-�鶹��ý.
