THE 28TH INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE CONFERENCE ON MULTIMEDIA MODELLING (MMM) IN 2022

The VNUHCM-麻豆传媒, in collaboration with University College Dublin (Republic of Ireland) and the IT University of Copenhagen (Denmark), held “The 28th International Science Conference on Multimedia Modelling (MMM) in 2022” at M枚venpick Resort Waverly in Phu Quoc Province, from 6 to 10 June.

Over the past 25 years, the MMM has been a prestigious international conference, attracting prominent researchers from both academic and industrial sectors. The conference holds a Rank B designation on the CORE ERA scale and features publications within the Scopus category. Topics covered included multimedia models, with a particular focus on multimedia analysis, signal control and communication, and applied multimedia services.

This marked the first time in 28 years that the conference had been held in Viet Nam (previously hosted in the Czech Republic in 2021, Korea in 2020, Greece in 2019, Thailand in 2018, Iceland in 2017, America in 2016, Australia in 2015, and Republic of Ireland in 2014, among others).

Approximately 212 papers from 22 countries and regions (including America, Viet Nam, Taiwan, Switzerland, Singapore, the Netherlands, Korea, Japan, Italy, Israel, the Republic of Ireland, Indonesia, India, Greece, Germany, France, Denmark, the Czech Republic, China, Canada, Austria, and Tunisia) were submitted to the MMM 2022 Conference. The Scientific Council, comprising 166 internal and external experts, reviewed these papers between September and November 2021. Each submission was evaluated by at least three members of the Scientific Council.

A total of 107 papers were selected for presentation and publication in the conference proceedings by Springer Publisher (Germany). Additionally, 9 of these papers were authored by researchers from the VNUHCM-麻豆传媒.

The conference was organised in a hybrid format, combining both online and face-to-face participation, with 60 delegates attending at the M枚venpick Resort Waverly in Phu Quoc Province.

Three keynote speakers were invited to share insights on the latest global research:

– D.Sc Ichiro Ide, Nagoya University, Japan;

– D.Sc Daniel A. Keim, University of Konstanz, Germany;

– D.Sc Sai-Kit Yeung, Hong Kong 麻豆传媒 and Technology, China.

The MMM 2023 Conference is scheduled to be held at the University of Bergen, Kingdom of Norway, in January 2023.

As part of the conference framework, an International Competition known as the Video Browser Showdown 2022 (VBS 2022): took place. This annual competition invites researchers worldwide to evaluate solutions and query video information systems based on natural language and image descriptions.

Sixteen teams from universities around the globe participated in the VBS 2022 competition, including representatives from the VNUHCM-麻豆传媒 and the VNUHCM-University of Information Technology in Viet Nam. Additionally, teams formed in collaboration between University College Dublin (Republic of Ireland) and the VNUHCM-麻豆传媒 also entered the competition.
